Where We Eat: Restaurante Sebastian, Deià

My love of Deià only grows stronger after every visit, and it's easy to see why so many people are wanting to invest in property here. After attending a special dinner at La Residencia earlier this year I've been making it a point to try each of the Chef's Restaurants who have shaped this tiny, yet mighty village.

Restaurante Sebastian is named after the Chef and owner SEBASTIAN PASCH, who along with his wife run a very intimate Restaurant. Patricia warmly greeted us at the entrance and showed us to the back room where we were sat in the corner against the old stone walls. Immediately you could feel yourself slipping in time, being transported to the 1960's when this village still felt raw and new!

Typically when I go out to dinner it's an all night affair, so my partner and I started with the usual glass of Cava, filled to the top and tingly in the mouth! We ordered 3 starters and 2 mains, and we were off on a new culinary journey. As we casually sipped our Cava, we admired all of the very well dressed patrons in the Restaurant. We were happy to see no flip flops or sneakers in sight! Our 3 starters came out all at once, and this was clearly a mistake by our waiter. We had no idea where to begin; for example, if one dish became cold it would completely alter what the Chef had worked hard to create. Not our ideal entry to the dinner, but after we finished our starters we thought to let Patricia know. She apologized and at the end of the meal sent her husband, Sebastian over to ask us about the mishaps. This was something I have yet to experience from a Chef of a very busy Restaurant, he took the time to get to know us and listened. This tiny act from Sebastian and the whole team completely changed our evening. He offered us a digestif on the house and if we didn't have to do the windy drive back to Palma we would have gladly accepted.

I will highly recommend Restaurante Sebastian to any visitor wanting a extra special dinner on the island. It's perfectly romantic with the flickering candles and under Sebastian's & Patricia's wing the whole team is marvelous! Be sure to call in advance as it is very small and busy, and in the high season you will want to enjoy your dinner on the terrace.
